Measuring Impact
The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) is a framework to measure sustainability performance. A common set of measurements allows institutions to compare sustainability progress over time.
In 2021 Western received a Gold STARS rating for the third time in a row, measuring performance in more than 110 areas. We continually strive to increase our STARS score to Platinum, a rating few universities hold. Western has participated in this international reporting since 2011, and has achieved Gold status since 2014. Read more about our recent report on Western News.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The 2024 Impact Rankings is the sixth edition of these global rankings. Over 2,100 universities around the world were assessed this year, up from 1,700 in 2023.
Western University has placed in the top 25 institutions around the world for the last three years. Learn more about Western's work towards the UN SDGs here.
